When Jasmine reached out to me about possibly doing newborn photos she wasn't exactly sure about what type of session she wanted. I offer several types of newborn photography (Fresh 48, Lifestyle Newborn, Studio Newborn--I'll soon be offering Wrapped Minis too! and sometimes it can be both difficult and overwhelming to decide. After looking over a few samples Jasmine, and her husband Jack, decided on purchasing a package that included a Fresh 48 and a Lifestyle session in their home.
I was so excited to meet little Lilly when she was born and I brought along a wrap and headband that Jasmine had been eyeing too! It just so happened to match a blanket that her Mom had purchased and together we were able to turn that plastic bassinet into the cutest little bed for Lilly.
These little plastic bassinets are the bed we place our baby's in for their night of sleep. It's the place where they wake up for our first round of nighttime feedings. It's the place where we see their smiling face the first morning we spend together. In my opinion these little plastic beds and highly overlooked! As your Fresh 48 photographer I consider it my job to catch these small details that you may not to think to. Like the way your baby looks in their first little bed.
Then about a week after Lilly was born I went to Jasmine and Jack's home in Virginia Beach. I'm based in Virginia but I have traveled as far as Richmond in Virginia and into North Carolina! Their home was a Pinterest/Chip and Joanna dream. It was so pretty and I could see Jasmine's touches everywhere. The nursery was my favorite spot. It was a pink, mint and gray dream with a handmade farmhouse style crib and a matching changing table.
One thing that stood out? A little Bowser stuffed animal sitting in the corner of the crib! One of the first things I said was "what's the story with Bowser?" Jasmine explained that Jack had never been to Build -a-Bear before so shortly before Lilly was born, they went together. Jack built a Bowser and they decided it would become a tradition. They would all go to Build - a -Bear on Lilly's Birthday every year. I kind of love Bowser a little more now that I know this!
I did photos with this cute little family in the nursery and then we ventured into the living room, stopping to feed Lilly as needed. She stayed in this sweet outfit--that matched her nursery!--throughout our session together. I'm a sucker for monogrammed things so I totally appreciated it. My oldest son even had a little monogrammed diaper caddy!
We ended our session in Jasmine and Jack's living room to do a few family portraits. My favorite photo is where Jack bent down to kiss Lilly's head and at the same time, Lilly closed her eyes for a moment. I looked at the back of my camera and knew without even editing it yet that it was going to be a favorite!
Jasmine and Jack, thank you for welcoming me into your home. I enjoyed our session so much!
