When Ashley told me she was envisioning an Alice in "One"derland theme for Lily's first birthday photography session I was SO excited! She wanted a vintage tea party look and I excitedly started researching different items and coming up with a vision that would make this Cake Smash unique to Lily. I love doing Cake Smashes and part of the reason why is because it's a session where I really get to flex my creativity. Every Cake Smash I plan is different and I always start from scratch. I found this brick flowered backdrop that I knew would be perfect, a little tiny rabbit stool and everything else just came together from there.
My Super Smash sessions always begin with a portrait session so we get some good photos of these little ones before they're covered in cake! For our portrait session I slid down the little tea set and Lily had her own tea party. I bought this little wooden tea set from Target last Spring, it's from the Hearth & Hand with Magnolia line. Any other Fixer Upper - Chip and Joanna Gaines fans out there?! I'm obsessed. I have the Shiplap shirt, a shiplap wall in my house, all of our dishes are Hearth & Hand...come to think of it, I have a package from Magnolia Market arriving today with a Waco hat in it! I love their products, they are so well made! This isn't an ad lol I just really love their stuff! Anyway, this little tea set photographed beautifully and Lily thoroughly enjoyed herself!
When we switched over to the cake we also switched outfits and Lily had a little snack break with some puffs. When it was time to put the puffs away, girl was NOT happy and our first few photos were a little rough:
Luckily once she got a good taste of the frosting, all was right in the world and we got our sweet, happy Lily back!
All of my Super Smash sessions end with a nice bath in one of my tubs! It's usually a big crowd pleaser! Thanks to Mom playing peek a boo behind me, Lily was quite entertained.
Happy First birthday, Lily! I'm so happy I got to spend some of this special moment with you!
